I grew up in Oregon and have made it my home, where I work as a jewelry designer and creator while taking care of my two boys. I would have to say the jewelry designing is a part time job because raising two boys is a full time job. I do feel blessed to be able to stay at home with my boys and create jewelry when they allow it.
I have been making jewelry for as long as I can remember, probably about 15 years. I have a love and passion for drama and art and decided that I would use my talent to create dramatic designs through jewelry. In the last 6 years, I have improved my talent and have created my own style through my unique designs. I founded Morgen Barrett Designs the beginning of 2006. Now that my boys are getting older I have gone back into metalsmithing and I am exploring new worlds. I plan to create more with the metals in the future. Something to look forward to.
I started making jewelry for fun as a teenager, buying a few beads here and there and not knowing exactly what I was going to create. I then became hooked and started to make gifts for my friends and family and then kept getting better, and the pieces became more beautiful. I decided it would be fun to try to sell some pieces to see what would happen. I was selling to all my family and friends and started networking through them by hosting jewelry parties at other people’s houses. I then realized that I should make this my full time gig.
I knew it would be hard, since there are a lot of other amazing jewelry designers doing the same thing I am. Then I thought: I love designing and making jewelry, and why not do what you love to do? I have a passion and a gift for coming up with unique, one-of-a-kind designs that I am able to put together with thought and love. All of my creations are handcrafted using various techniques of stringing, knotting, metalsmithing, and wirework.
I love making custom pieces for anyone who has an idea in mind. We can work one-on-one and design together a piece that is just right for you. I take pride in my jewelry and strive to make my prices affordable to my customers. Remember that most of my pieces are one-of-a-kind, and you will most likely not find the piece that you buy on another person.
I hope you take pleasure in your new jewelry as much as I took pleasure in making it.
Morgen Barrett
